TikTok could be facing a fine of $29 million in the UK
The popular social media video-sharing app TikTok, owned by the Chinese company ByteDance, could be facing a fine of $29 million in the UK for failing to protect children's privacy.
Under the new British rules protecting minors online, British regulators warned TikTok that they had handled youngsters' information without appropriate permission from their parents and processed sensitive details without legal grounds. The company has failed to explain their policy on how the platform processes data and its practices.
It is not the first time TikTok has been accused of such negligence. In 2019, Musical.ly, now the operators of TikTok, paid a fine of $5.7 million to settle federal charges in the US.
