On Thursday, Sept. 7, 2023, at approximately 3:30 p.m., police were called to investigate a report of an altercation taking place at the halfway point between Sarcee Trail S.W. and Old Banff Coach Road S.W. The victim, who was driving a black 2010 Acura TL, was travelling south on Sarcee Trail S.W., continuing west on Bow Trail S.W., when his vehicle moved close to another vehicle, believed to be a black Toyota Highlander, in the lane beside him.

The victim continued driving west on Bow Trail S.W., when at the midway point between Sarcee Trail S.W. and Old Banff Coach Road S.W., a different vehicle – a white Chevrolet Silverado 1500 – aggressively pulled ahead of him and forcefully applied the brakes. The driver of the truck then exited his vehicle and began to shout, while kicking the victim’s vehicle. The victim remained inside of his vehicle and lowered his window to speak to the man, when the man then began to punch him in the face and head, causing the victim to lose consciousness. While the victim was unconscious, the man attempted to pull him out of the vehicle and continued to assault him until two passersby stopped and intervened, taking the man away from the victim while they called 9-1-1. The man fled the scene before police arrived.

The suspect’s vehicle is believed to be a white Chevrolet Silverado 1500 with aftermarket black tires, with writing on the box and an aftermarket Chevrolet logo on the front. The suspect is described as between 5’6” and 5’8” tall, with a medium, athletic build, blond hair and blue eyes. It is believed the suspect may have a familial connection to the driver of the black Toyota Highlander.

Photos of the man’s vehicle and a composite sketch taken from a witness are available on The City of Calgary Newsroom.

Investigators are searching for any CCTV or dashcam footage from people who may have been in either the Coach Hill area at the time of the assault, or who may have travelled on Sarcee Trail or Bow Trail S.W. in that area at the time of the assault.

Police would like to thank the witnesses who stopped to help the victim and ask that if there are any other witnesses with information, they come forward to police.

Anyone with CCTV, dashcam footage or information related to this incident is asked to contact police by calling 403-266-1234. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers through any of the following methods:
