Police in Markham are searching for suspects following a carjacking

Investigators with the York Regional Police Hold-Up Unit are seeking suspects and witnesses following a carjacking in the City of Markham.

On Thursday, April 13, 2023, at approximately 6 p.m., officers responded to a report of a carjacking in the area of Highway 7 East and Wootten Way South.

The victim reported that he was in a plaza parking lot unloading items from the trunk of his 2016 grey Lexus when a male suspect got into the driver’s seat. The vehicle was running at the time. The victim attempted to get the suspect out of his vehicle, however he was shoved him back. The suspect showed a firearm, before stealing the vehicle and fleeing the scene.

Investigators believe that a second male suspect was waiting nearby in a white truck or a white SUV and left the scene following the first suspect.

The first suspect is described as a male in his 30s wearing dark clothes.

The driver of the white vehicle that followed the first suspect is described as a male and brown.

Investigators are appealing to any witnesses who have not yet spoken with police to come forward. Officers would also like to speak with anyone who may have video surveillance or dashcam footage of the incident.

This investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the York Regional Police Hold-Up Unit at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 6631, or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-tips, leave an anonymous tip online at www.1800222tips.com.
