Paris shooting: Three dead, many wounded

A gunman opened fire in central Paris, killing three and wounding four.

Witnesses said the attackers hit a Kurdish community center and restaurant, and prosecutors said they were investigating a possible racist motive.

A 69-year-old suspect was quickly apprehended, and it was soon revealed that he had recently been released from prison.

Authorities urged people to avoid the Strasbourg-Saint-Denis area in Paris' 10th arrondissement.

The motive for the shooting has yet to be determined, but Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau confirmed that the suspect, who had just been released from prison, attacked tents at a Paris migrant camp with a sword a year ago.

This happened at Bessie on December 8, 2021. It was not immediately clear why he was released.

Local Mayor Alexandra Cordebad said the suspect was also wounded in the shooting, which came under fire at three locations: the Kurdish community centre, a restaurant and a hairdresser. Two people were shot in the salon.
