NFL star Damar Hamlin is in critical condition after cardiac arrest

Damar Hamlin's family releases a statement thanking them for their love and support.

The family of Damar Hamlin released a statement after the 24-year-old Buffalo Bills collapsed on the field during a game Monday night and suffered cardiac arrest.

"On behalf of our family, we want to express our sincere gratitude for the love and support shown to Damar during this challenging time," the statement read. "We are deeply moved by the prayers, kind words, and donations from fans around the country."

The statement was tweeted via Hamlin's friend Jordan Rooney.

The family also thanked the first responders and medical team at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for caring for the NFL player.

“We feel so blessed to be part of the Buffalo Bills organization and to have their support. We also want to thank Coach Taylor and the Bengals for everything they've done,” the statement goes on. “Your generosity and compassion mean the world to us.” The statement does not provide an update on Hamlin’s condition, but says they “will release updates as soon as we have them.”

What the NFL has said so far about Hamlin's collapse and the Bills-Bengals game

A day after the game between the Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals was indefinitely postponed after Bills player Dahma Hamlin went into cardiac arrest on the field, the NFL still hasn't announced future plans for the duel.

Some of Hamlin's teammates will remain in Cincinnati while others will travel to Buffalo on Tuesday morning, NFL executive vice president of football operations Troy Vincent said on a late-night conference call.

Asked about the team's travel plans following the postponement, Vincent said the league has been notified that some members of the team will travel to Buffalo on Tuesday morning.

"There were a handful of players that wanted to stay back with their teammate. And then where were others that had planned on returning back to Orchard Park (New York),” Vincent said.
