On Friday morning, Nancy Pelosi's husband was brutally attacked at her home in San Francisco, United States, using a hammer, possibly a targeted violent assault. Paul Pelosi, the husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, was attacked and badly beaten by a batterer wielding a hammer who broke into their San Francisco home early Friday, according to sources with knowledge of the investigation.
Mr Pelosi, 82, suffered blunt force injuries to his head and body, according to two people who spoke with The Associated Press on condition of anonymity to discuss an ongoing probe by the police department. The assault was not random; assailants had targeted Pelosi residence specifically, those people said.
The attacker is now being held under arrest. Doctors were treating Pelosi for bruises, heavy swelling, and other injuries.
Nancy Pelosi's department spokesperson Drew Hammill said Mr. Pelosi is expected to fully recover. "Speaker Pelosi and her family are grateful for the first responders and the healthcare professionals involved, and they ask that we maintain confidentiality during this time", Hammill said in a statement.
