The Municipal election falls on the same day as Diwali on October 24th, 2022, which is concerning
Several groups, such as the Indo-Caribean Canadian association, have raised concerns over the municipal election held during the huge Indian festival Diwali on October 24, 2022, in Ontario.

While talking to CTV media, the group representative, Ayesha Khan, argued that the festival is a big deal for Indians and for people who celebrate the festival. The families come together, temples light up, and one can never imagine an election on Diwali in India. Similarly, one cannot imagine an election being held on Christmas in Canada.
The election day should be changed considering major holidays as the groups are enormous and might affect voting. Ayesha also argues that in 2007 the election date was changed considering a Jewish holiday and wants the same consideration for Diwali this year.
