Kevin McCarthy becomes speaker in 15th round

Kevin McCarthy ends up speaker in 15th round after violent scenes in Capitol: After four days of farce, Republicans had to be stopped by rebel Matt Gates on Jan. 6 second anniversary.

Finally, on the 15th ballot in a four-day series, Rep. Kevin McCarthy won the coveted title: Speaker of the House.

"That was easy, huh?" McCarthy began his victory speech shortly after South Carolina Rep. Mike Rogers had to be stopped from attacking Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz.

The two Republicans nearly sparred over Gates' refusal to back McCarthy on the 14th ballot, a feud that cost him his toll, but a bitter clash ensued as emotions flared during the heated voting process.

“Hakeem, I gotta warn ya, two years ago I got 100 percent of the vote from my conference,” McCarthy continued, trying to act as a peacemaker.

He glanced at Hakeem Jeffries, the leader of the Democratic Party, whose party has firmly supported him throughout the speech contest.

'Leader Jeffries there will be times we agree. And many times we will differ. I promise our debates will be passionate but they will never be personal,' McCarthy said.

'Now, the hard work begins.'

McCarthy holds the gavel at long last

'We're going to pass bills to fix the nation's challenges from wide open southern borders,  to American last energy policies to woke indoctrination in our schools,' he added. 'We will use the power of the purse and the power of the subpoena to get the job done.'

The new Speaker added: 'We will also address America's long-term challenges: the debt and the Chinese Communist Party. Congress must speak with one voice on both of these issues.'

One of the House's "very first hearings" will be on the U.S.-Mexico border, and the first bill will be "repeal funding for 87,000 new IRS agents," he said.

After the longest gavel vote since the Civil War, McCarthy's victory was confirmed in a final vote at 12:30 a.m. Saturday when four hardline Republicans voted to back down.

His victory came after sheer chaos in the House when Republican Rep. Mike Rogers lashed out at Matt Gaetz and had to be stopped by his peers.

The Republican House of Representatives won by making major concessions to insurgent groups demanding more power within the party.

After four days of multiple elections and patience wearing thin, McCarthy turned more than a dozen conservative advocates into supporters, including the chairman of the House Freedom Caucus, before he took up the gavel of the new Congress. There are hardly any supporters left.
