MUMBAI, INDIA — Colleagues of Tunisha Sharma claim she died by suicide, but police say they are investigating.
Sheezan Mohammed Khan, co-star of actor Tunisha Sharma - a TV actor who reportedly committed suicide on Saturday in Vasai's TV show in Maharashtra's Palghar district - was arrested after an assisted suicide case was registered against him, police said today. This afternoon, he was sentenced to four days in police custody by the Vasai court in Mumbai. On Sunday, another co-star, Parth Zutshi, was summoned by police to question the matter.
A First Information Report (FIR) in the case revealed that the two actors were in a relationship and broke up 15 days ago. Tunisha Sharma is reportedly under pressure that is believed to have pushed her over the edge, reported NDTV.
Speaking to the media outside the police station, Mr. Zutshi, who claimed he was not on set when the incident happened, said: "I was called for questioning by police and was asked general questions. I can't comment on her relations. I don't have any idea; it was her internal matter."
Her autopsy was carried out at JJ Hospital in Mumbai early Sunday, police said, adding that her body showed no signs of injury. Initial examination indicated she died of asphyxiation.
So far, the police have obtained the confessions of 14 persons involved in the case. They are all related to the program "Ali Baba: Dastaan-E-Kabul."
The 20-year-old actor was found hanged in the bathroom after a tea break during filming; Waliff police said they had not been out for a long time and had to break down the door. The rifle squad took her to the hospital around 1.30 am, where she was pronounced dead.
