Police are investigating the death of a 37-year-old woman whose body was found on highway 400.
Provincial police say the body of a 37-year-old woman was found Wednesday along Highway 400 in Bradford West Gwillimbury, but her identity has not been released.
Early Wednesday afternoon, a motorist called the police to report human remains were found in a ditch on the northbound lanes between 5th Line and Highway 88.
Police said the woman's identity was withheld until next of kin were notified. An autopsy is expected to determine the cause of death on Friday.
In a news release Thursday, police did not say whether the death was suspicious but added they did not believe it posed a threat to public safety.
The OPP Crime Unit of the Department of Highway Safety, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigations Branch, is conducting the investigation in collaboration with the Office of the Provincial Chief Coroner and the Forensic Pathology Service.
A few police officers are expected to be on the scene Friday as the OPP appeals to the public for help.
Police urge anyone who passed through the area between the night of Jan 15 and the morning of Jan 18, if they have dashcam footage or notice parked vehicles or pedestrians, to contact OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
Alternatively, tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-8477 to remain anonymous.
