CANADA: An extreme cold weather alert has been issued for Toronto, Mississauga

An extreme cold weather alert has been issued for the GTA. It's -10°C in Toronto now, but it feels more like -19°C.

Make sure to bundle up and put on your snow gear. You need your gloves, hat, neck warmer, warm clothes and boots.

As a result of this alert, Toronto opened its warming centers at 7 p.m. Friday after an extreme cold weather warning was issued. The city extended the warning through Saturday. Three heating centers in Toronto - Scarborough Civic Center at 150 Borough Dr., Metro Hall at 55 John St. and Mitchell Field Community Center at 89 Church Ave. – Open on Saturdays.


A spokesperson for the city said in an email that the centres would “give those who are vulnerable and may be experiencing homelessness a safe indoor and warm place to rest and access snacks, washroom facilities and referrals to emergency shelter.” The centres are open until noon, the day the alert ends.
