Musk says he will stand by unscientific poll results but also says 'no successor'
The poll concluded Monday that more than half of the 17.5 million users in a Twitter poll voted in favor of whether billionaire Elon Musk should step down as head of the social media platform.
There was no immediate announcement from Twitter or Musk on whether that would happen, but he said he would stand by the outcome. The results of the unscientific 12-hour online poll showed that 57.5% of voters wanted him to step down.
Musk's promise to let users decide his future role at Twitter seemed to be out of thin air on Sunday, even though he also promised in November that a restructuring would happen soon.
Musk also admitted on Sunday that he had mistakenly introduced new language restrictions that prohibited references to competing social media sites.
Blocking links to other platforms
In another major policy change, Twitter announced that users would no longer be able to link to Facebook, Instagram, Mastodon and other platforms, which the company called "prohibited."
But the decision immediately drew so much criticism, including from Twitter's former defenders of the new billionaire, that Musk vowed not to make any major changes without polling users online policy changes.
