Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie's niece was kicked off of a Spirit Airlines flight on Thanksgiving Day after she accused a family of smuggling cocaine and then kicking and biting sheriff's deputies who tried to detain her at Louis Armstrong International Airport.
Shannon Epstein, 25, apparently asked a family who thought they were Latino whether they were smuggling cocaine on a 6 a.m. flight from New Orleans to New Jersey, according to a spokesman for the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office, according to a source daily voice.
Epstein's departure came at the request of airline employees, but they only became more disturbed when the plane began taxiing, outlet officials said. Epstein apparently refused to get off the jet bridge before biting a deputy on the arm, kicking another in the groin and injuring four others while trying to hold her down, the outlet said People say.
Epstein was sentenced to prison and charged with assaulting the police, disturbing the peace and resisting arrest. A total of 7 deputies were used to handcuff Epstein to a wheelchair. She was released on a $10,750 bond, the spokesperson said.
Epstein's LinkedIn profile and online records identify her as being from Mendham.
