Ontario Education Minister Stephen Lecce has outlined the Government's next steps in a plan to support students to catch up after falling behind during the COVID-19 pandemic. As part of the $365 million plan, the provincial Government will offer $200-$250 per child to offset the costs of catching up in school. Lecce said the funds would allow students to get tutoring or additional support.

The Executive Director and founder of People for Education, Annie Kidder, reacted to this plan and said she is skeptical if the payments will help students. While speaking to news media CP24, Kidder said, "It is a real worry that one of the responses is kind of we will write you a cheque because it is just not effective. It's not systematic." She also mentioned that schools need a LOT of support and a more comprehensive response to this.
