Canada: Two adults and two children dead in a house fire in Hamilton, Ontario


Two adults and two children were killed in an overnight three-alarm fire in Hamilton on Thursday, officials said.


Hamilton Fire Services said they received multiple calls just after 11 pm. 14 Derby Street, near Upper Gage Avenue and Rymal Road building fire.


Fire Chief Dave Cunliffe said in a news release that first responders said a key unit was "fully involved" in a row of townhouses, with smoke and flames visible from the front and back of the unit.



"Crews quickly initiated aggressive interior search and rescue [and] firefighting operations from both the front and rear of the unit," said Cunliffe.


Hamilton police said a total of six people were found at the unit and taken to the hospital, with two adults and two children pronounced dead. The remaining two are in stable condition, according to police.


The fire will be investigated by the Ontario Fire Marshal, police said, adding that investigators are updating family and loved ones on the "tragic" incident.


Cunliffe said the damage and cause of the fire were not yet known.
