TORONTO — A retail robbery series investigation leads to the arrest of two boys, Cliffcrest, Blake-Jones and The Beaches neighborhoods.
The Toronto Police Service Hold Up Squad is making the public aware of two arrests made in a retail robbery investigation.
Between Sunday, April 9, 2023, and Tuesday, May 9, 2023, police responded to three robbery calls in the Queen Street East and Hambly Avenue, Kingston Road and Cathedral Bluffs Drive and Danforth Avenue and Pape Avenue areas.
It is alleged that:
in each incident, two boys entered a convenience store while wearing masks to conceal their identities
one boy produced a handgun
in two of the incidents, the other boy produced a knife
they approached an employee and made demands for cash
in one incident, an employee was assaulted and transported to hospital where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries
the boys obtained cash before fleeing each premise
Members of the Hold Up Squad commenced an investigation and were able to identify the two boys.
On Thursday, May 18, 2023, police executed a Criminal Code Search Warrant in relation to the investigation. One of the boys was located and taken into custody.
It is further alleged that:
at the time of the search, officers recovered items of evidentiary value related to the investigation
On Thursday, May 18, 2023, the other boy turned himself in at 55 Division and was taken into custody.
A boy, 17*, of Toronto, was charged with:
three counts of Robbery With Firearm
two counts of Disguise With Intent
Assault Causing Bodily Harm
two counts of Carry Concealed Weapon
two counts of Weapons Dangerous
He was scheduled to appear in court for a Bail Hearing on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at 10 a.m., at the Ontario Court of Justice, 10 Armoury Street, Courtroom 606.
A boy, 15*, of Toronto, was charged with:
three counts of Robbery With Firearm
three counts of Disguise With Intent
Uttering Threats
three counts of Carry Concealed Weapon
three counts of Weapons Dangerous
He was scheduled to appear in court for a Bail Hearing on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at 10 a.m., at the Ontario Court of Justice, 10 Armoury Street, Courtroom 606.
